HB 1385 -- FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES

This bill specifies that, beginning January 1, 2026, any city with a population between 11,000 and 12,5000 located in a county with a population over 1 million that became a constitutional charter city after 1990 that annexed property after May 26, 1994, and pays a fire protection district the tax revenue that the fire protection district would have received from the annexed property, must provide fire protection services to the annexed area and will not pay the fire protection district unless the city and the fire protection district enter a mutually agreed upon contract. The residents of the annexed area will no longer get to vote in any fire protection district elections and will no longer be eligible to be fire protection district board members.

Upon enactment, this will apply to the city of Crestwood.

This bill is similar to HB 1259 (2023).
