HB 1294 -- GUN VIOLENCE TASK FORCE

This bill establishes the "Task Force on Gun Violence in the City of St Louis".

The task force will consist of a number of elected officials from the General Assembly, a number of representatives of various government departments, and a number of private citizens, as described in the bill.

The task force must hold an initial meeting before January 1, 2026, and will meet each month thereafter. The members will serve without compensation, but must be entitled to necessary and actual expenses incurred when attending meetings.

The task force must also establish specialized teams that focus on the following:

(1) Gathering and analyzing data to compare St Louis City with the rest of the State, with consideration given to rates of gun violence, demographics, and policies;

(2) Utilizing certain available venues to raise awareness about gun violence in St Louis City and to evoke community action;

(3) Building partnerships within the community and securing support from various stakeholders;

(4) Developing solutions and implementing a plan of action to address and reduce gun violence; and

(5) Measuring and reflecting on progress within the community.

The Department of Public Safety must provide administrative support to the task force. On or before December 31st of each year, the task force must submit a report on its findings to the governor and the General Assembly. The task force will expire on December 31, 2027, unless extended until December 31, 2029.
