HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 18 103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY INTRODUCED BY REPRESENTATIVE RIGGS. 2694H.01I JOSEPH ENGLER, Chief Clerk

WHEREAS, the Residence Act of 1790 established Washington, D.C., as the capital 2 of the United States; and 3 4 WHEREAS, the capital of the United States should be centrally located and easily 5 accessible to all citizens; and 6 7 WHEREAS, according to the 2020 census, the population center of the United States 8 is located within the state of Missouri: 9 10 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of 11 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly, First Regular Session, the 12 Senate concurring therein, hereby urge Congress to repeal the Residence Act of 1790 and 13 designate Missouri, as the population center of the lower forty-eight states, as the next 14 national capital; and 15 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of 17 Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the 18 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Majority Leader of the United 19 States Senate, and the Missouri congressional delegation. ✔
