Currently, a person commits the offense of unlawful possession of a firearm if the person knowingly has any firearm in his or her possession and has been convicted of a felony.
This bill states that if the conviction was for a violent felony, possessing a firearm will not be an offense after the passage of 10 years following the date of sentence completion for the felony conviction. If the conviction was for a nonviolent felony, possessing a firearm will not be an offense after the passage of three years following the date of sentence completion for the felony conviction.
