COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs by a vote of 11 to 4. Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules-Legislative by a vote of 7 to 2.
This bill allows the General Assembly, the House of Representatives, or the Senate to hire legislative security officers to ensure the security and the functioning of the General Assembly. The legislative security officers will be certified by the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission and will have all the powers granted to law enforcement officers in this State.
The provisions of this bill are subject to an emergency clause.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that POST certification is necessary for Capitol security to communicate effectively with other agencies. There are types of information that can't be shared unless an organization is a certified policing agency. The Capitol will be safer.
Testifying in person for the bill were Representative West; and Arnie C. Dienoff.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony and witnesses testifying online can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
