Under this bill, an employer or group of employers who have been granted self-insurance authority by the Division of Workers' Compensation to insure their workers' compensation liabilities, may contract for additional supplemental insurance coverage for volunteer firefighters to cover additional payment of workers' compensation benefits owed under the law, including temporary total disability benefits under Section 287.250, RSMo.
Under the bill, a volunteer fire department, county or regional association of volunteer fire departments, municipalities or groups of employers authorized to self-insure their workers' compensation liabilities, may contribute in part or in whole to the payment of premiums for the purchase of supplemental insurance coverage. In addition, a county or a municipal governing body may use proceeds from the county or municipal taxes not earmarked for other purposes to provide for the additional supplemental insurance coverage.
