SB 672 - This act establishes the "Alexander Whalen Safe Highways Act", requiring the Department of Transportation to implement wrong-way vehicle detection systems (WWVDSs), as defined in the act. Implementation shall begin no later than March 1, 2026, and shall prioritize high-risk interchanges, as specified in the act.

WWVDSs shall be integrated with dynamic message signs to alert other drivers in the area, and the Department shall develop a system to automatically notify emergency responders in the event of a wrong-way driver. The Department shall perform a statewide education campaign to inform drivers about wrong-way driving risks and safety measures, and shall annually report to the General Assembly and Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight regarding the implementation and effectiveness of WWVDSs.
