WHEREAS, the Missouri House of Representatives takes great pride in honoring 2 distinguished Missourians whose lives and careers have left an indelible mark on our state 3 and nation; and 4 5 WHEREAS, Senator Claire McCaskill has devoted her life to public service, 6 breaking barriers and championing the voices of working families, veterans, and the most 7 vulnerable among us; and 8 9 WHEREAS, Claire McCaskill began her distinguished career in the Missouri House 10 of Representatives in 1983, where she quickly established herself as a tenacious advocate for 11 accountability in government and economic opportunity for all Missourians; and 12 13 WHEREAS, she made history as Jackson County Prosecutor and fearlessly 14 prosecuted domestic violence and consumer fraud cases, ensuring that justice was served 15 for all citizens, regardless of status or circumstance; and 16 17 WHEREAS, in 1998, she was elected Missouri State Auditor, where she rooted out 18 waste, fraud, and abuse in government, proving herself to be a steadfast guardian of taxpayer 19 dollars and a champion of government transparency; and 20 21 WHEREAS, in 2006, Claire McCaskill made history once more by becoming the first 22 woman elected to the United States Senate from Missouri, where she served with distinction 23 for twelve years; and 24 25 WHEREAS, as a U.S. Senator, Claire McCaskill was a tireless advocate for veterans, 26 working to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensure that those who served our 27 country received the care and benefits they deserved; and 28 HR 187 2

29 WHEREAS, she fought for Missouri’s middle class by holding corporations and 30 government agencies accountable, cutting wasteful spending, and advocating for policies that 31 supported small businesses and job creation; and 32 33 WHEREAS, Senator McCaskill played a pivotal role in the passage of legislation to 34 combat sexual assault in the military and on college campuses, ensuring protections for 35 survivors and accountability for perpetrators; and 36 37 WHEREAS, she championed bipartisanship and independent leadership, never 38 hesitating to stand up to powerful interests on behalf of the people of Missouri; and 39 40 WHEREAS, her legacy as a trailblazer for women in politics and her unwavering 41 dedication to public service serve as an inspiration for generations to come: 42 43 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of 44 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly, First Regular Session, hereby 45 honor the extraordinary life and career of Senator Claire McCaskill and recognize her 46 invaluable contributions to the State of Missouri and the United States; and 47 48 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Missouri House of Representatives will 49 induct Senator Claire McCaskill into the Hall of Famous Missourians, ensuring that her 50 legacy of service, courage, and integrity is forever enshrined in the history of our great state; 51 and 52 53 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of 54 Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for 55 Senator Claire McCaskill. ✔
