HB 1163 -- MUNICIPAL SANCTUARY POLICIES

Current law prohibits any municipality from adopting a sanctuary policy, defined as an order or ordinance that limits or prohibits cooperation with Federal agencies or officials to verify or report immigration status of any alien or grants to illegal aliens the right to lawful presence or status within the municipality in violation of Federal law.

This bill clarifies that any municipality that adopts any such policy will be prohibited from receiving State money of any kind.

The bill also makes any municipality official who votes in favor of adopting such a policy guilty of the offense of hindering prosecution.
