HB 852 -- SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST PREVENTION ACT

SPONSOR: Doll

This bill creates the "Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act" that requires the State Board of Education to adopt guidelines for the education of athletes, parents, and coaches on the nature and warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest.

The bill requires the board to develop an information sheet with warning signs to be provided to student athletes. In the 2025-26 school year, student athletes and the athletes' parents must be required to sign a form with acknowledgment of receipt and review of such information.

The bill requires the Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) to develop the form and require such form for an athlete to be eligible. MSHSAA must also require coaches to complete a cardiac arrest training which will be in correlation with training in CPR and the use of AEDs.

The bill authorizes athletic trainers, coaches, and other responsible parties to remove student athletes that exhibit cardiac arrest symptoms and notify the parents. Student athletes must be evaluated by a medical professional before returning to play.
