HB 734 -- DESIGNATION OF A MEMORIAL HIGHWAY

SPONSOR: Deaton

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Tourism by a vote of 9 to 0. Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules-Administrative by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill designates the "Deputy Marshal David Thurman Memorial Highway" in McDonald County. The Department of Transportation will erect and maintain appropriate signs designating such highway, with the costs to be paid by the Department of Transportation.

This bill is the same as HB 2461 (2024).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that Deputy Marshal Thurman was very civic-minded and was always giving back to his community. The community he served already went through the process of gathering signatures for the section of the highway to be named after Deputy Marshal Thurman, but there is a limit on how long the highway can be named that. This bill would put the designation into law.

Testifying in person for the bill was Representative Deaton.

There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony and witnesses testifying online can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
