HB 689 -- A PROHIBITION ON AMMUNITION REGISTRIES

This bill establishes the "Missouri Ammunition Privacy Protection Act".

The bill prohibits any person or government entity from establishing or maintaining a registry of ammunition sellers or purchasers. A seller may collect information necessary for billing and shipping information, provided that the data is not used to create ammunition registry.

Under the provisions of the bill, no person or business can be required to report ammunition sales or purchases to a government entity for the purpose of creating or maintaining a registry. Any records or databases already in existence that would be prohibited under this bill must be destroyed within 90 days of the effective date of the bill.

Any person or entity that knowingly violates the provisions of this bill will be subject to a civil penalty of not more than $5,000 per violation. Any government official or employee who knowingly actions in violation of this bill will be guilty of a class A misdemeanor.
