Currently, property owners may file a verified petition in the relevant court to seek relief for removing "unlawful occupants" from property containing a residential dwelling.
This bill expands the petition's coverage to private noncommercial property.
This bill is similar to HCS HB 2896 (2024).
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill adds further clarity to the previous session's squatters legislation by expanding the scope beyond residential dwellings.
