This bill prohibits discrimination on the basis of hair texture and protective hairstyles in any program or activity conducted by an educational institution that receives or benefits from state financial assistance or state student financial aid.
The bill defines "race" for the purposes of Chapter 213, RSMo, to include traits historically associated with race including, but not limited to, hair texture and protective hairstyles. The term "protective hairstyles" includes, but is not limited to, such hairstyles as braids, locks, and twists.
This bill is similar to HB 1591 (2024) and is similar to HB 326 (2023).
