SPONSOR: Vernetti

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Tourism by a vote of 10 to 0. Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules-Administrative by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill designates the bridge on U.S. Highway 54 crossing over the Grand Glaize Arm at Lake of the Ozarks in Camden County as the "Police Officer Phylicia Carson Memorial Bridge". The Department of Transportation will erect and maintain the signs, with the costs paid by the Department.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that Phylicia loved being a police officer. She was committed to upholding the law thereby making the community in which her husband and children live in a safer place to be. Designating the bridge over the Grand Glaize arm of the Lake of the Ozarks as the “Police Officer Phylicia Carson Memorial Bridge” would help memorialize her legacy as a servant to the community she loved and served so well. By naming this bridge in her honor, we ensure that Officer Carson’s legacy of bravery, dedication, and selflessness is remembered by future generations.

Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Vernetti; Michael O'day, Osage Beach Police Department.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
