WHEREAS, Norman Eugene "Norm" Stewart coached the University of Missouri 2 basketball team for more than three decades; and 3 4 WHEREAS, Stewart, a native of Shelby County, Missouri, was a student athlete at 5 the University of Missouri from 1952 to 1956 and, after graduation, briefly played 6 professional baseball and basketball before coaching basketball at the University of Northern 7 Iowa; and 8 9 WHEREAS, after six successful seasons coaching at the University of Northern 10 Iowa, Stewart returned to the University of Missouri as head basketball coach; and 11 12 WHEREAS, over the course of thirty-two seasons, Stewart compiled a record of 13 seven hundred thirty-four wins and three hundred thirty-three losses; and 14 15 WHEREAS, while he was head coach at the University of Missouri, Stewart's teams 16 won eight Big Eight regular season championships and six Big Eight tournament titles and 17 appeared in sixteen NCAA tournaments; and 18 19 WHEREAS, Stewart was named Coach of the Year by United Press International in 20 1982 and by the Associated Press in 1994 and was inducted into the National Collegiate 21 Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007; and 22 23 WHEREAS, after receiving a colon cancer diagnosis in 1989, Stewart founded 24 Coaches vs. Cancer, a program that has raised more than one hundred fifty-five million 25 dollars in the battle against cancer; and 26 27 WHEREAS, the General Assembly has a long tradition of honoring prominent 28 Missourians for their achievements and contributions to the state through induction into the 29 Hall of Famous Missourians: HR 5515 2

30 31 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the members of the Missouri 32 House of Representatives, One Hundred Second General Assembly, grant the Speaker of the 33 House, Dean Plocher, permission to use the House Chamber for the purpose of inducting the 34 bust of Norman Eugene "Norm" Stewart into the Hall of Famous Missourians on Wednesday, 35 May 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. 36 37 Special note: Participants in the aforementioned event shall conduct themselves in a manner 38 that preserves the dignity and honor of the House of Representatives. Such persons shall 39 behave respectfully and dress appropriately for the occasion. Food items, drinks, and 40 smoking are prohibited on the floor of the House and lower gallery, and participants shall 41 refrain from any conduct that diminishes the decorum of the House Chamber. 42 Access to the dais is limited to the Speaker's podium for purposes of using the 43 microphone to speak to those assembled. Access to the staff area behind the rostrum is 44 prohibited. 45 Group photographs; the hanging of any banners or other items on the walls, curtains, 46 or any surface within the House Chamber; and the use of any equipment, including 47 computers, phones, or other items on the dais and rostrum area, are also prohibited. ✔
