This bill establishes the "Study Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren" to address the challenges that arise when grandparents raise their grandchildren.
The bill specifies the Commission's membership and includes one member appointed by the Speaker of the House and one member appointed by the minority floor leader of the House. The remaining members and who shall appoint those members are specified in the bill. The appointments are required to be coordinated to ensure commission membership is inclusive and reflects the racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity of the state.
The Commission is required to prepare a report of its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the General Assembly no later than January 15, 2025. Upon the filing of the report, the Commission will be dissolved and discharged of any future responsibilities and liabilities.
