SPONSOR: Johnson (12)
Currently, an individual unlawfully possesses a firearm if such person knowingly has a firearm in his or her possession and: has been convicted of a felony in Missouri, a crime in any other state, or a federal crime that, if committed in Missouri, would be a felony; or such person is a fugitive, is habitually intoxicated or drugged, or is mentally incompetent.
This bill adds to that list a person under 18 in possession of a firearm on public property. However, possession of a firearm is not an offense if such person possesses the firearm while accompanied by someone who is at least 21 years of age; for a school-sanctioned, firearm-related event or club; for legal hunting; or as otherwise authorized by law.
This bill is the same as HB 1535 (2024).
