AN ACT Relating to divorce with respect week.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
WHEREAS, choosing an out-of-court divorce process is widely understood to be a 2 better process for the children of the divorcing couple because it allows the divorcing parties 3 to co-parent and to end the marriage without destroying the family’s relationships and 4 financial estate; and 5 6 WHEREAS, collaborative divorce affords the couple more privacy in solving their 7 differences and is often less expensive and less time consuming than litigated cases; and 8 9 WHEREAS, the collaborative divorce process is designed to allow the couple to 10 divorce in a more respectful and dignified manner as they work with lawyers, child 11 specialists, mental health professionals, and financial coaches to craft their own agreements; 12 and 13 14 WHEREAS, the collaborative divorce process and the International Academy of 15 Collaborative Professionals were nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for transforming 16 the way families resolve conflict; and 17 18 WHEREAS, collaborative divorce professionals throughout the state are joining 19 together to offer free divorce informational consultations during "Divorce with Respect 20 Week": 21 HCR 53 2
22 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of 23 Representatives of the One Hundred Second General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the 24 Senate concurring therein, hereby designate March 4-8, 2024, as "Divorce with Respect 25 Week"; and 26 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of this state are encouraged to 28 participate in appropriate events and activities to raise awareness about alternative divorce 29 options; and 30 31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be sent to the Governor for his 32 approval or rejection pursuant to the Missouri Constitution. ✔
