SECOND REGULAR SESSION

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 44 102ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY INTRODUCED BY REPRESENTATIVE YOUNG. 4405H.01I DANA RADEMAN MILLER, Chief Clerk

WHEREAS, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the progressive, gradual loss of kidney 2 function that results in a decrease in the ability of the kidneys to remove waste from the body; 3 and 4 5 WHEREAS, it is estimated that thirty-seven million adults in the United States have 6 CKD and, of those, approximately ninety percent remain undiagnosed; and 7 8 WHEREAS, without diagnosis and treatment to slow its progression, CKD can 9 progress to end-stage renal failure, which is fatal unless the patient receives dialysis or a 10 kidney transplant; and 11 12 WHEREAS, CKD is associated with more severe COVID-19 infections, and 13 COVID-19 may cause acute kidney damage that can lead to dialysis or even death; and 14 15 WHEREAS, regular screening and early detection can prevent the progression of 16 kidney disease to kidney failure, and it is essential that awareness of kidney disease and the 17 importance of prevention and early detection be raised; and 18 19 WHEREAS, kidney disease awareness empowers patients and families to seek 20 diagnosis, support, and appropriate treatment: 21 22 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of 23 Representatives of the One Hundred Second General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the 24 Senate concurring therein, hereby urge the members of the General Assembly to raise 25 awareness of kidney disease; and 26 HCR 44 2

27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of 28 Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the 29 Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the 30 Missouri Senate. ✔
