            WHEREAS, the modern State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948, with the
 2 Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel; and
 3
 4          WHEREAS, Missouri’s son, U.S. President Harry S. Truman, was the first world
 5 leader to officially recognize Israel as a legitimate Jewish State on May 14, 1948, only eleven
 6 minutes after its creation; and
 7
 8          WHEREAS, Israel as a nation has the right to establish borders and secure those
 9 borders to provide self-defense to its people; and
10
11          WHEREAS, the safety and security of Israel is of central importance to the safety and
12 security of the Jewish people in Missouri, the United States, and worldwide; and
13
14          WHEREAS, Hamas conducted an unprecedented terror attack in Israel and on its
15 people on October 7, 2023, murdering approximately 1200 people, including 845 civilians,
16 and taking 242 people hostage; and
17
18          WHEREAS, the state of Israel has consistently stood as a beacon of democracy and
19 stability in a turbulent region:

21          NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of
22 Representatives of the One Hundred Second General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the
23 Senate concurring therein, hereby support and stand with Israel and its right to exist and self-
24 defense; and

26          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly thoroughly and
27   unequivocally condemns the cowardly and barbaric terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas
28   on Israel, its citizens, and the American citizens visiting or living in Israel; and
29
30          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we affirm that a strong and secure Israel is not
31   only vital to the interests of the Israeli people but also to global peace and security; and
32
33           BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of
34   Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the
35   Israeli Consulate General in Miami, Florida.
