This bill requires that firearms being transported or stored in a motor vehicle be unloaded and stored in a locked trunk or locked container. The bill makes exceptions for certain individuals if the concealable firearm is in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, is lawfully possessed, and the firearm: is a handgun under the direct control of the person carrying the firearm; the person is in possession of an exposed firearm or projectile weapon for the lawful pursuit of game; the person and motor vehicle are in the person's dwelling unit or premises; or the person is traveling on a continuous journey peaceably through this state.
This bill is the same as HB 1498 (2024) and similar to HB 230 (2023).
