HB 2032 -- MOTORCYCLE OPERATION

SPONSOR: Mann

This bill allows a motorcycle driver to overtake and pass vehicles in the motorcyclist's lane and between lanes of vehicles, all traveling in the same direction, otherwise known as lane filtering, provided that the motorcyclist is not traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the speed of traffic flow and not more than 25 miles per hour.

The bill does not allow the motorcyclist to continuously drive between lanes of vehicles, otherwise known as lane splitting.

An operator of a motor vehicle that intentionally impedes or attempts to prevent a motorcyclist from operating the motorcycle as allowed is guilty of an infraction.

The State Highway Patrol can develop educational guidelines regarding lane filtering that will ensure the safety of drivers and passengers of motorcycles and motor vehicles.

This bill is the same as HB 1046 (2023).
