This bill requires health care professionals that provide maternity health care services to, through the use of a validated and evidence-based verbal screening tool, screen for mental disorders and mental illnesses in all pregnant women as early as possible at the onset of prenatal care and throughout the pregnancy. The Department of Health and Senior Services shall establish guidelines for this purpose and make them available on their website.
Any pregnant woman found to have a mental disorder or mental illness shall be provided or referred for treatment. The Department shall establish a perinatal navigator program for the purpose of engaging pregnant women in early prenatal care and providing referral for wraparound services and home visiting programs in the local community.
This bill is the same as HB 146 (2023).
