HB 1909 -- COUNTY COMMITTEE MEETINGS

SPONSOR: Taylor (48)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass by Consent" by the Standing Committee on Local Government by a vote of 11 to 0. Voted "Do Pass- Consent" by the Standing Committee on Consent and House Procedure by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill repeals the requirement that county committees hold their meetings within the seat of the county in advance of primary elections.

This bill is the same as HB 92 (2023).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this statute is outdated. COVID showed that there are many more ways to meet. The county seat may no longer be the largest city or town in the county and may be far away from the population of the county.

Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Taylor; and Arnie C. Dienoff.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony and witnesses testifying online can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
