Currently, the punishment for first degree murder is either the death penalty or life imprisonment without eligibility for parole. This bill eliminates the punishment of the death penalty. Any person previously sentenced to death but who has not yet been executed will be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole instead.
This bill is the same as HB 839 (2023) and HB 2028 (2022).
