This bill modifies the law regarding unlawful possession of a firearm. Currently, a felon is prohibited from possessing a firearm. This bill prohibits only persons convicted of a dangerous felony from possessing a firearm, not all felons. The bill also prohibits persons on probation or parole for a felony, other than a dangerous felony, from possessing a firearm. These provisions do not apply to the possession of an antique firearm.
This bill is similar to HB 55 (2023).
