HB 1582 -- RESTITUTION CHARGED AGAINST PARENTS OF MINOR CHILDREN

Currently, a court may order a child to make restitution for damage or loss caused by the child's offense, and a court may enter an order of restitution against the child and his or her parents under certain circumstances. The current maximum that can be paid by a child and his or her parents is $4,000. This bill increases the maximum to $10,000. The current maximum a parent or guardian of a minor under 18 years of age can be ordered to pay for the minor intentionally marking upon or defacing property or purposely causing personal injury to a person is $2,000. This bill increases the maximum to $5,000.
