HB 1611 -- CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS

SPONSOR: Van Schoiack

This bill modifies the procedure for determining an applicant's suitability for a concealed carry permit. This procedure includes requiring the sheriff to request a criminal background check through the State Highway Patrol, rather than the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

The Patrol shall not involve the federal government in the background check. No information resulting from the background check shall be sent to the federal government.

Within 30 days of the completion of the background check, the sheriff and State Highway Patrol shall destroy all records related to the background check.

The same background check procedure shall apply to all categories of concealed carry permit applications listed in the bill.
