This bill designates August 31st of each year as "Random Acts of Kindness Day" to mark the beginning of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September. Citizens are encouraged to celebrate this day by engaging in small acts of kindness that can change the course of a person's life.

This bill is the same as HB 1419 (2020).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that suicide impacts everyone, and many people are struggling. Most of us do not know when someone is contemplating suicide, but we do know what it feels like when someone is nice to us when we least expect it. This day will help bring more attention to the problem of suicide and hopefully become contagious in creating positive community events.

Testifying for the bill were Representative McGirl. There was additional written testimony submitted in support of the bill.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
