This bill establishes a new special license plate in Minnesota, designated as the "Minnesota grandparent plates." The commissioner is required to issue these plates to applicants who are registered owners of certain types of vehicles, pay a specified fee, and contribute a minimum of $35 to the food shelf support account upon application and annually thereafter. The design of the plates will feature an image of baby footprints and the phrase "Minnesota proud grandparents." Additionally, the bill allows for the transfer of these special plates to another vehicle under specific conditions.
Contributions collected from the issuance of these plates will be deposited into the food shelf support account, which is established within the special revenue fund. The funds will be appropriated to the commissioner of public safety for account administration and to the commissioner of children, youth, and families for food shelf program grants. The provisions of this bill will take effect on January 1, 2027, for plates issued on or after that date.
