This bill aims to prohibit the use of certain single-use plastics in hotels, specifically targeting single-use plastic bottles containing shampoo or conditioner. It introduces a new section, [325E.048] SINGLE-USE PLASTICS; HOTELS, which defines key terms such as "hotel" and "single-use plastic bottle." Under this legislation, hotels are not allowed to sell, offer for sale, or provide these plastic bottles to their customers.
To enforce this prohibition, the bill establishes civil penalties for violations, with hotel owners facing a fine of $50 for each single-use plastic bottle sold or provided, capped at a maximum penalty of $10,000. Additionally, the attorney general is granted the authority to enforce this section. The provisions of this bill are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
