This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 124D.09, by adding a new subdivision that establishes eligibility criteria for students wishing to participate in postsecondary enrollment options. The criteria set forth by postsecondary institutions must include a minimum qualifying grade point average, performance on a standardized assessment (such as the 8th grade Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment), and class rank. Additionally, the bill allows for exceptions where a student who does not meet these criteria may still enroll in a course if their school submits a recommendation letter.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that any student who enrolls in a course but fails to achieve a passing grade will be ineligible to enroll in a subsequent course under this section for the following quarter or semester. The new provisions are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
