The bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 121A.425, subdivision 1, to allow for disciplinary dismissals in kindergarten through grade 3 under specific conditions. Previously, pupils in these grades were not subject to dismissals, but the new language permits dismissals for a limited duration of up to one partial day and one full day following a disciplinary incident. This change aims to facilitate communication between the school and the pupil's parent or guardian regarding the incident while ensuring the pupil can return to school to fully participate.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that dismissals can only occur after all resources outlined in subdivision 2 have been exhausted and only in situations where there is an ongoing serious safety threat to the child or others. The effective date for this amendment is set for the 2026-2027 school year and later.
