This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 363A.08, by adding a new subdivision that prohibits employers, employment agencies, and labor organizations from requiring a driver's license as a condition of employment, except in cases where driving is an essential job function or related to a legitimate business purpose. Specifically, it makes it an unfair employment practice to require a valid driver's license or to refuse alternative identification documents that are acceptable for verifying identity and employment authorization as prescribed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that employers may still accept a driver's license if it is voluntarily offered by the employee or applicant, and such acceptance cannot be used as evidence of a violation of this new provision. The effective date for this amendment is set for January 1, 2027.
