This bill amends existing legislation to extend the appropriation availability for the Direct Care and Treatment county correctional facility support pilot program. Specifically, it allocates $2,387,000 in fiscal year 2025 to establish a two-year pilot program aimed at enhancing the provision of involuntary medications for mental health treatment in county correctional facilities. The program will focus on providing education and support to counties, technical assistance for expanding access to injectable psychotropic medications, and surveying facilities on their capacity to administer these medications. The appropriation for this program is now available until June 30, 2027, as opposed to the previously set date of June 30, 2026.
Additionally, the bill includes funding for other initiatives within the Direct Care and Treatment framework, such as $1,368,000 for free communication services and $1,796,000 for designing a replacement facility for the Miller Building at the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center. Both of these appropriations are also available until June 30, 2027. Furthermore, it provides $482,000 for the administration of an advisory committee related to Direct Care and Treatment operations, with the same extended availability. The bill also includes a base level adjustment to the general fund, increasing it by $31,000 in fiscal year 2026.
