This bill modifies the continuing education requirements for insurance producers in Minnesota. It amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 45.30, subdivision 1, to require that the commissioner must approve courses for continuing education, rather than having the option to do so. Additionally, it updates section 60K.56, subdivision 6, to mandate that insurance producers complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of accredited courses during each licensing period, with specific stipulations on how credit hours can be earned. Notably, it introduces a requirement that licensees must obtain three hours of credit in ethics.

Furthermore, the bill adds a new subdivision (8a) to section 60K.56, which allows insurance producers to earn up to four hours of continuing education credit for active participation in a state or national professional insurance association. This credit must be verified and submitted by the association and cannot be used to fulfill ethics education requirements. Active participation is defined by service on a board of directors, formal committee, or subcommittee of the association.
