The Senate resolution recognizes Kevin Cher Chai Vang for his significant contributions to the Hmong community. Born in Laos in 1963, Kevin faced adversity early in life, ultimately seeking refuge in Thailand before immigrating to the United States in 1987 with his wife, Mai Yee Yang, and their children. They settled in Milwaukee and later Minnesota, where they built a family of five successful adults and 20 grandchildren. Kevin pursued education in machining and, alongside Mai Yee, co-founded several businesses that have served the community.
Over the past three decades, Kevin has been a dedicated advocate for Hmong culture, holding various leadership roles, including treasurer of the Vang clan and president of the Hmong 18 Council of Minnesota. He has also mastered traditional funeral rites, providing support and training to many within the community. The resolution honors both Kevin and Mai Yee for their lifetime achievements and their 45th wedding anniversary, commending Kevin for his efforts in promoting Hmong culture and directing the Secretary of the Senate to prepare an official copy of the resolution for them.
