This bill amends the Open Meeting Law in Minnesota to enhance the privacy of applicants for school district superintendent and principal positions. It allows for the classification of personnel data related to these applicants as private, meaning their names and other identifying information will not be publicly disclosed unless they are certified as eligible for appointment or are finalists for the position. The private classification will expire once the applicant accepts an offer of employment.

Additionally, the bill authorizes public bodies to hold closed meetings specifically for interviewing candidates for the positions of school district superintendent and school principal. Prior to closing such a meeting, the public body must announce that the meeting is for the purpose of these interviews, and the meeting must be open if requested by the individual being interviewed. These changes aim to provide a more confidential and secure process for hiring key educational leaders while still maintaining transparency in public employment practices.
