This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 268B.01, subdivision 15, to provide a religious order exemption from the Minnesota Paid Leave Law. The amendment clarifies the definition of "covered employment" by specifying that it does not include a duly ordained or licensed minister of a church in the exercise of their ministry or a member of a religious order in the exercise of duties required by the order. Additionally, it introduces a new exclusion for employment by a seasonal employee, as defined in subdivision 35.

The bill maintains the existing definitions of covered employment while expanding the exclusions to ensure that certain religious roles are not subject to the Paid Leave Law. It also allows entities that fall under these exclusions to opt into coverage if they choose, following a procedure determined by the commissioner. The commissioner is granted the authority to adopt rules to further define the application of this subdivision and establish criteria for covered employment for individuals who do not meet the current criteria but perform services for a Minnesota employer.
