The bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 120B.236, to enhance the provisions regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) instruction in schools. It specifies that school districts must provide one-time CPR and automated instruction to students, which does not need to result in certification. The training must now include instruction developed by both the American Heart Association and the Health and Safety Institute, ensuring that it adheres to nationally recognized, evidence-based guidelines and incorporates psychomotor skills for effective learning.

Additionally, the bill allows school districts to utilize community members, such as emergency medical technicians, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, and representatives from the Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium and the Health and Safety Institute, to assist in providing training and resources. Community members are encouraged to offer training materials at no cost to the schools. The bill also includes provisions for waiving the curriculum requirement for certain students, such as high school transfer students or those with disabilities, ensuring flexibility in the implementation of the CPR and AED instruction.
