This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 169.345, to authorize the issuance of cancer-related disability parking certificates. It introduces a new subdivision that allows applicants diagnosed with cancer to obtain a certificate if they provide a medical statement affirming their condition and its impact on their mobility. The medical statement must confirm that the applicant has been diagnosed with cancer and is experiencing conditions that affect their ability to safely navigate parking or traffic, with the expectation that these conditions will persist for at least 30 days.
Additionally, the bill modifies existing language regarding the medical statement required for disability parking certificates. It specifies that the commissioner must develop a format for the medical statement, which must be signed by a health professional. The bill also clarifies that a certificate issued under the new cancer-related provision is valid for up to 12 months and outlines the parking privileges associated with the certificate, which are applicable only while the vehicle is parked and transporting the individual for whom the certificate was issued.
