This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 169.345, to authorize the issuance of cancer-related disability parking certificates. It modifies existing provisions regarding the medical statement required for applicants, specifying that the statement must be signed by a health professional who certifies that the applicant is either defined as disabled or eligible for a certificate under the new subdivision. The bill also clarifies that the medical statement must include the health professional's opinion on the duration of the disability. Additionally, it establishes penalties for fraudulent applications.

Furthermore, the bill introduces a new subdivision that outlines the criteria for obtaining a cancer-related certificate. Applicants must provide a medical statement confirming a cancer diagnosis and associated conditions that impair their ability to walk, with the expectation that these conditions will persist for at least 30 days. The new certificate will be valid for up to 12 months and grants parking privileges only while the vehicle is parked for the purpose of transporting the individual for whom the certificate is issued.
