The Senate resolution honors Bret Heitkamp on the occasion of his upcoming retirement in May 2025, recognizing his significant contributions to the community of Champlin, Minnesota. He began his career as the parks and recreation director in 1986 and was promoted to city administrator in 1999. Under his leadership, Champlin experienced substantial growth, with numerous commercial and residential developments along Highway 169 and an increase in population by over 10,000 residents. His efforts also included overseeing the development of the Mississippi Crossings Event Center and securing over $30 million in public investment for various community improvements.

In addition to his administrative roles, Bret has actively participated in several community boards and task forces, including the Anoka-Champlin Fire Board and the Ice Arena Task Force.
