This bill authorizes electronic monitoring in certain health care facilities to combat patient abuse, particularly among vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young patients, neurodivergent individuals, and those with physical or mental disabilities. It allows patients who are admitted for more than 24 hours to use electronic monitoring devices in their rooms. The bill defines "health care facilities" to include hospitals, residential hospice facilities, and birth centers, and references existing definitions for electronic monitoring devices.

Additionally, the bill proposes new legal language to be added to Minnesota Statutes, specifically in chapter 144, under the section titled "[144.6504] ADDITIONAL ELECTRONIC MONITORING IN HEALTH CARE FACILITIES." It emphasizes the necessity of electronic monitoring to protect vulnerable patients and ensures that the provisions for electronic monitoring outlined in section 144.6502 are applicable to this new section.
