This bill amends various provisions related to pharmacy interns in Minnesota, specifically updating the definitions, application fees, renewal requirements, and internship credit hour requirements. Notably, the definition of "pharmacist intern" is expanded to include individuals who have completed pharmacy orientation or are enrolled in an accredited doctor of pharmacy program, as well as those participating in residency or fellowship programs, foreign pharmacy graduates, and others. The application fee for pharmacy interns is reduced from $75 to $25, and beginning January 1, 2026, the annual renewal fee will also be set at $25. Additionally, a new reinstatement fee of up to $100 is established for pharmacy interns whose registrations have lapsed.

The bill also introduces new requirements for internship registration and renewal, including the necessity for interns to maintain current employment notices, submit progress reports, and demonstrate ongoing commitment to their pharmacy education. Furthermore, it specifies that interns must complete at least 1,600 credit hours under supervision to qualify for pharmacist licensure, with detailed guidelines on how these hours can be earned. Lastly, the bill repeals certain Minnesota Rules related to the definitions and competencies of pharmacy interns, streamlining the regulatory framework governing pharmacy internships.
