This bill proposes the transformation of the Governor's Council on an Age-Friendly Minnesota into the Age-Friendly Minnesota Council, which will be established to enhance coordination among various sectors, including state government, nonprofits, and businesses, to promote an age-friendly environment in Minnesota. The council will consist of 15 voting members, including designated representatives from several state agencies and six public members appointed by the governor. The council will have the authority to elect its chairperson, form subcommittees, and conduct meetings both in-person and electronically, ensuring accessibility and transparency in its operations.

Additionally, the bill codifies the establishment of age-friendly community and technical assistance grant programs, aimed at supporting communities in becoming more age-friendly. It appropriates $1.5 million for age-friendly community grants and $863,000 for technical assistance grants for the fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The bill also amends existing laws to extend the council's expiration date to June 30, 2025, and ensures a smooth transition for current members of the Governor's Council to the new Age-Friendly Minnesota Council.
