The bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 3.305, subdivision 9, to modify the provisions governing joint legislative studies. It establishes that the Legislative Coordinating Commission will oversee and coordinate all joint legislative studies mandated by the legislature, and it may require regular progress reports from the responsible parties. The bill clarifies that appropriations for joint legislative studies will be made to the Legislative Coordinating Commission, except for those specifically assigned to an existing legislative office.

Additionally, the bill allows the Legislative Coordinating Commission to delegate responsibility and appropriations for a joint legislative study to various entities, including existing staff offices of the house of representatives or senate, legislative commissions, joint legislative committees, or state agencies. The responsible office, commission, joint committee, or agency is also permitted to contract with another agent for assistance in conducting the study.
