This bill amends Minnesota Statutes to require that the commissioners of the Pollution Control Agency and the Department of Transportation be licensed professional engineers. Specifically, it adds a new requirement in section 116.03, subdivision 1, stating that the commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency must hold a professional engineering license. Similarly, section 174.02, subdivision 1, is amended to include the same licensing requirement for the commissioner of transportation.

Both amendments will take effect on January 5, 2027. The bill aims to ensure that the individuals overseeing these critical environmental and transportation agencies possess the necessary engineering qualifications to make informed decisions in their respective fields.
