The bill proposes the appropriation of $250,000 for each of the fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the general fund to the commissioner of children, youth, and families. This funding is designated for grants to nationally recognized forensic interview protocol organizations, which will be used to provide scholarships for various levels of forensic interview training. The training includes basic and advanced forensic interview techniques, as well as specialized topics relevant to the field.

Eligible recipients of these scholarships include professionals from law enforcement, child protection, and prosecution, as well as health professionals involved in the investigation, treatment, and management of child maltreatment cases in Minnesota. Additionally, forensic interviewers working at children's advocacy centers will also be able to benefit from this training initiative.
