The bill establishes a new pilot program focused on plant-based foods production training, to be administered by the commissioner of higher education. Under the new section [136A.247] PLANT-BASED FOODS PRODUCTION TRAINING PILOT PROGRAM, the program will provide grants to secondary career and technical education programs and institutions of higher education. Priority will be given to institutions that collaborate with local producers of plant-based foods. The grants can be utilized for various costs, including equipment for food production, facility renovations, and training faculty in the fundamentals of plant-based food production. Additionally, the bill appropriates $500,000 in fiscal year 2026 from the general fund specifically for this pilot program, which is a one-time appropriation available until June 30, 2027. This funding aims to support the development of educational resources and infrastructure necessary for advancing plant-based food production training in Minnesota.
